Great spot to grab an authentic New Mexican meal. The drinks were also delicious! The bar tender shared some of her favorites with us, and we loved every bite... especially those sopapillas with honey! We die have to wait about an hour for a table, but we enjoyed strolling around the area while we waited.
Only 5 stars because 6 is not an option. 3 option plate- soft taco red chili beef and double order of pork. The sopapilla was great, just ask to come out at end of meal or comes with and is cold by the time you finish your plate. Small detail, truly coming back when in Santa Fe, the spices and freshness are second to none. Salsa was wonderful and service was attentive without hovering.
I haven’t been to Santa Fe in years. Every place I visited I would ask: “what restaurant do you recommend”, and at least 8 people said La Choza. And after eating the Mrs I totally get it! The food and service were terrific. Their silver coin margarita was perfect! I strongly recommend the Pork Carne Adovado. Well done!!
I have lived in New Mexico for 35 years. This is the best New Mexican restaurant I have ever been to and I have tried most of them. Excellent red and green chiles. I appreciate that they have several vegetarian options including posole, enchiladas and the chiles. The outdoor patio is lovely.
My mother and I ate lunch at La Choza today. I ordered the Green Chile Chowder and Frito Pie and she the Taquitos. All of it was very good. The spice level on the chowder and Frito Pie was spot on. I would suggest that sour cream be added to the Frito Pie. Being the father of a cognitively disabled child, I loved seeing people with intellectual disabilities employed there!
Sister restaurant of the famous The Shed with a lot of the same dishes. The servers are always so friendly and nice. Just a happy disposition which goes a long way with customers. A truly family run place. Oh - and when they say the plate is crazy be careful - believe it! Ha ha. And the salad plate is ice cold. We always share a salad and some type of combo plate.
Always at the top of my list while in Santa Fe for great green and red chili. Good friendly service and reasonably priced. This is a locals favorite often overlooked by tourists. Located at the south end of the railyard in an old Adobe building with great ambience. I highly recommend.
We really enjoyed dining at their sister property, The Shed, on a previous visit to Santa Fe. La Choza was walking distance to where we were staying (near the Railyard) and is a must-try for anyone looking for authentic and delicious traditional Southwestern food. We ordered the red chile pork tamale plate and the blue corn fish tacos, along with a side of sopapillas, and every dish was outstanding. The red chile pork tamale definitely had a kick, but the flavor was so incredible that I (someone who usually avoids overly spicy food) couldn't stop eating it. The blue corn fish tacos were also fantastic. We didn't have a reservation and we chose to eat at the bar - the service was both efficient and incredibly friendly.
